To achieve that end we will develop a cross-functional, multidisciplinary independent research consortium that provides a clearing house of implementation science and communication to critical infrastructure sectors. Focused on private industry, academia, and government sectors, the Independent Shared Air Scientific Research Consortium sponsored by Mission-Next provides a clearing house of trusted, unbiased and systematic analysis of established and emerging technologies. These will be translated through implementation science and strategic communications to be deployed at scale, in targeted ways to protect infrastructure sector operations, protect workers, and instill consumer confidence.”
As a country, we have been slow to acknowledge the emerging role that the airborne spread (droplet nuclei and aerosols) of COVID represents in the current pandemic. Only recently have we recognized the protentional for engineering controls to protect critical infrastructure functions, protecting workers, and instilling confidence to allow us to do all that we have missed-working, living, studying, playing, and sharing life’s most important moments together.
There are few, if any, organizations that have developed a definitive and systematic survey of the engineering controls, integrated with traditional public health and sanitation guidance, traditional public health and sanitation guidance, and tailored recommendations that are focused by sector, on efficacy, and with cost effective metrics. This independent research board is built to provide information that will meet those needs.
Lt. Gen. (Dr.) Paul K. Carlton Jr. served as the 17th Surgeon General of the Air Force and was the functional leader of the U.S. Air Force Medical Service. He advised the Secretary of the Air Force and Air Force Chief of Staff, as well as the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs on matters pertaining to the health of Air Force people.
Jim Mathews is President & CEO of the Rail Passengers Association in Washington, DC, a nationwide 501(c)(3) nonprofit transportation advocacy group. Prior to accepting his current position in 2014, Jim spent 28 years with Aviation Week, most recently as the senior editor. He brings a wealth of experience working across the transportation sectors in both his current and prior positions, as well as experience successfully working across party lines to help craft transportation policy for the nation.
Dr. Qingyan “Yan” Chen is the James G. Dwyer Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, USA. He serves also as the Editor-in-Chief of the international journal “Building and Environment”. Dr. Chen was the founding co-Principal Director of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Center of Excellence for Airliner Cabin Environment Research from 2004 to 2010.
